Polish Railway Lines (PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe) has signed a contract for technical and project documentation of a railway line connecting Katowice and Katowice’s Airport in Pyrzowice. The contract is worth PLN 52 million and will be prepared by consortium of Poeyry Infra and DB International. The consortium has 600 days to prepare the documentation including all administrative permissions as a building permit, environmental constraints and a motion for the EU grant.
A total line length is estimated for 38 km. A travel from Katowice’s City Center to the Pyrzowice Airport will take about 35 minutes. A call for a bid for a prime contractor is scheduled for 2011. The line should be finished in 2015. A total cost of the project is PLN 1,2 billion. It is planned that 85 percent of the amount will be financed from EU grants.
