On Wednesday, 19th of October, the City Hall of Katowice handed over the construction site of the International Convention Center (ICC) to a prime contractor – Polimex-Mostostal S.A. At the beginning of October both parties signed a contract to execute the works. Construction completion date is scheduled for 31st of May 2013.
The company has to fence the construction site and to start with preparatory works at first, which means relocation and reconnection of utilities. Ground works are to be commenced this year.
- The ICC will be constructed as a solid, reinforced concrete structure with a steel structure of the roof. Following quantities of materials will be used according to the prime contractor:
– concrete of different classes: 45 000 cu. m.
– reinforcement steel: 3 500 tons
– structural steel: 3 000 tons
A gross value of the contract is PLN 252,7 million. Polimex-Mostostal is obliged to rise a 34,899 sq. meters building ready to host 12 000 visitors at one time. Together with the nearest “Spodek” sport and exhibition hall, the complex will handle up to 20 000 people. The structure of the future venue is 236 meters long and 92 meters wide. To compare, a football pitch’s dimension of the Silesian Stadium is 105 x 68 m. The height of the building north part is 22 meters and 15 meters in the south part.
The multifunctional ICC will comprise a multipurpose main hall, auditorium, banquet hall, as well as a restaurant and cafeteria, among other facilities. Its functions are destined to organize exhibitions, fairs, entertainment, congresses and conferences.
