Works are in full swing at the construction site of the new Railway Station and Galeria Katowicka. A few weeks ago, the ground for foundation of Galeria Katowicka was started to be stabilized with lean concrete. Tonight, a first part of the foundation slab was poured with concrete.
The works are diversified and its type depend on a place of the construction site. In some places the prime contractor’s crews already work on the foundation slab, some are performing anchoring works on a diaphragm wall. Also, earth works are still underway in most areas of the site.
“To prepare the ground of the foundation slab, a subsoil has to be stabilized with lean concrete. Then, the basis of the lean concrete is covered by insulation matting which will insulate the whole building’s structure. Afterwards, a reinforcement of the foundation slab and form-works are conducted. Finally, the reinforcement can be then poured with concrete” – explained Antoni Pomorski, Project Director at Neinver Poland. “The reinforcement of the foundation slab will be made of 4 000 tons of reinforcing steel, to lay the foundation slab we need 27 000 cubic meters of concrete” – he added.
The anchoring works on the diaphragm wall are coming to an end. Then, the construction site workers will be able to finish the earth works and to start preparing the foundation slab on the level of -15 meters. This is the part of the site where the new Railway Station’s building will be raised. According to Neinver, the investor of the mixed-use complex at Szewczyka Sq., the foundation of the Station will be laid in a few weeks time.
