ICC qualified by Marshal Office

The Marshal Office of Śląskie Voivodeship signed a conditional agreement to qualify the project of International Convention Center (ICC) for a European Union grant within the framework of the Regional Operational Programme for Śląskie Voivodeship for the years 2007 – 2013. The investment will be realized by the City Hall of Katowice.

At present, an application of the project has to be evaluated by the European Commission (EC) which will decide about an EU grant’s admission. In case of affirmative opinion the City Hall of Katowice will be grant-aided by almost PLN 153 million. A total cost of the investment is estimated at PLN 303 million. A missing amount (PLN 150 m) will be financed from the City budget and a European Investment Bank loan.

“In practice, the conditional agreement signed by the Marshal Office enables us to announce a tender for a prime contractor of the investment before the final decision of the European Commission. We have just got an engineering design prepared by JEMS Architekci – the authors of the architectural project. It is necessary to draw up a tender documentation which will be prepared by a contract engineer. I think we will be able to announce the tender in October or November 2010.” – said Janusz Nowak, Project Manager of ICC.

International Convention Center will cover a total area of 34 186 sq. meters and will create a new cultural district together with “Spodek” and new seats of Silesian Museum and National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
