ISP and University of Silesia join forces

On Thursday, ING Services Polska (ISP) and the University of Silesia signed a letter of intent to increase the collaboration between the academia and the IT company.

The cooperation will provide students with an opportunity of trainings and internships in ISP. The linking of knowledge with practice will also be strengthened by assisting in the working process on master’s thesis and other dissertations as well as on research projects.

ISP is part of the international ING Group operating in the area of banking, insurance and assets management. ISP is a shared services center located in Katowice which provides IT services to about 40 ING Group’s entities across 15 countries in Europe and in Singapore. The center offers services related to backup and restore of databases and applications, security management as well as network connection hosting.

To develop its capabilities on the Polish market, ISP expands the IT center and creates a new research and development unit in the City, which will provide services for ING Group across the globe. The R&D workers will be involved in development of existing ING’s IT software and research of new solutions that combine center’s capabilities with an advanced cloud based shared services platform.

In December last year, ISP announced to invest PLN 80 million to expand the Katowice center. Part of the costs (PLN 12 million) will be covered by the EU’s funds of the Operational Programme Innovative Economy. More than 150 new workplaces will be created by mid-2015 within the project. Presently ING Services Polska hires more than 400 people in Katowice.

In October 2012, the University of Silesia in Katowice signed an agreement with IBM under the terms of which the university will broaden its curriculum with classes using the latest IBM technology and solutions for the development of smarter cities.
