The City of Katowice was pronounced the “Newcomer city of the year” during the Poland Outsourcing and Shared Services Awards. The celebration took place in Warsaw at the InterContinental Hotel on 7th of February, 2013.
An independent jury made up of over 20 professionals of outsourcing and shared services centers from Europe, North America and Asia decided about the winners that had contributed to the development of the business services sector in Poland last year.
17 companies, cities and individuals were distinguished in 17 categories from amongst 125 nominations. Katowice won the title mostly because of the rapid development of the BPO/SSC sector during the last twelve months and the expansion of companies that have already invested in Katowice (i.e. Capgemini, Unilever, Ericsson, Rockwell Automation and ING). Last year, the City has also attracted several new firms: Oracle, Tele-Fonika, Barona and Webanywhere.
“Katowice made a huge progress to become the potential destination for international companies of the shared services and outsourcing sector” – said Thom Barnhardt of BiznesPolska, an organizer of the gala.
“The newcomer title crowns Katowice efforts to be a dynamic center of the business services sector. Capgemini believed in the City’s assets in 2006. Presently, we hire 1,5 thousand employees in Katowice what makes us the biggest investor of this sector in the City” – commented Marcin Nowak, managing director at Capgemini Polska.
The event gathered 240 guests and representatives of international firms interested in setting up or expanding their business services centers in Poland. The gala was preceded by a half-day discussion panels covering the shared services and outsourcing sector and attended by the Katowice mayor, Piotr Uszok.
Poland Outsourcing and Shared Services Awards were organized by Outsourcing in Poland and BiznesPolska Media.
