PKP (Polish State Railways) and Neinver Polska came to terms with development of “Katowice Osobowa” railway station. All the documents will be sign up in a few weeks as the PKP needs an agreement of the Board of Exchequer. The new railway station should be ready in 2012. The development scheme will be released after conlusion of the contract.
Neinver Polska is known for its realizations of shopping malls in big polish cities. The project of new railway station consists of shopping gallery as the main characteristic and the bus station under the ground. The famous cup-shaped pillar system supporting the roof – the symbol of a mid-century modernism architecture – will be preserved and adapted into new surroundings but some of the architects don’t hide their scepticism about the project. In their opinion, the station should be more representative within easy reach for people and the future redevelopment is going to absorb the present building re-shaping it into a big shopping mall and to make pedestrian traffic more difficult.
