Plot chosen for the Science Center

A Municipal Committee of Architecture and Town Planning of Katowice pronounced a positive opinion on the subject of location of the planned Science Center in the City. The building would be raised between Roździeńskiego Av. and the “Bogucki” Park, near by the new seat of the Silesian Museum and opposite the “W. Roździeńskiego” housing estate.

City councilors already filed an official intent draft concerning an execution of the project by the City of Katowice. “We would like to prepare a documentation of the project within two years period, maybe in one year and a half. It will show, among others, the range and scale of the building in details. In 2013, we would like to apply for the European union funds destined for the years 2014-2020” – said prof. Alicja Ratuszna, Chairwoman of the Association of the Science Center in Katowice.

The Center would be a following building for the designed “cultural district”. The preliminary outlines describe the Center as a 20 000 sq. meters facility with 6 000 sq. m. destined for exhibitions and 2 000 sq. m. as a warehouse. The plot chosen as the future construction site is 70 meters long and 30 meters wide.

An estimated cost of the Center amounts PLN 400 million. It is planned to be opened in 2016.
