Preparation for extension

In 2010, an extension of the Katowice Airport will start within the framework of a long-standing development programme estimated for PLN 435 million. Last month, the Upper Silesian Avation Group which manages the Airport, increased in capital by PLN 83 m. It was possible thanks to a new stock purchase by present share-holders – Węglokoks, the Silesian Voivodeship government, the “Polish Airport” State Enterprise and the City of Katowice.

The first phase of the extension, which start is scheduled in spring, assumes a development of the 30 000 sq. m new plane parking for following 13 planes. After the extension, the plane parking will be adapted to 26 planes on the whole. In the nearest future a construction of a new runaway and a taxiway will be started.

At present, tender documents for a 7 000 sq. m cargo terminal are under completion. The investment outlays expected to reach EUR 16 million (60% costs will be covered by EU funds).
