Instead of the economic downturn and a poor retail market outlook for 2009, Silesia City Center, the biggest shopping and entertainment center in the region, increased in sales and number of visitors year on year. In 2009, SCC scored a 1 percent sales growth and a 4 percent growth in number of visitors, both in comparison with 2008. The center was visited by 13 245 695 customers in 2009. In regard to this index, December brought the highest number of clients – 1 293 508. The biggest growth in sales was recorded by restaurants (+40 percent), entertainment (+20), health and beauty (+18) and sport (+6).
Among new brands which chose SCC last year were Badura (footwear), Calzedonia and Deni Cler (fashion), Intimissimi (underwear), Kopernik (candy), Thai Express (restaurant).
In March 2010, the center welcomed a new tenant which is s.Oliver. The German fashion company leased 985 sq. m for its store offering lines of products for men and women. This is the first store of the company in the region.
Silesia City Center has a total area of 65 000 sq. m (an extension planned) and is home of 250 stores, the Saturn mega store and a 24/7 Tesco supermarket. An upper floor entertainment sector features the Cinema City movie theater, the Fun City club (disco, bowling, pool, etc.), two restaurants (Bierhalle, Sicilia) and the Gymnasion fitness club for women.
