Site preparation

The contract for a general contractor of University Library secured by Mostostal Warszawa had been signed on 7th of August. Ten days later, on 17th of August the development site was delivered to Mostostal. Reffering to company’s press office, a site inventory control was already taken and the building area is currently fencing round. At the same time, preparatory and geodesic works are progessing. A demoliton of old parts of “Torkat” ice rink is planned to start next week. Then, a heavy construction equipment is going to come in to construction site.

The library project covers erection of a building consisting of two rectangular structures: a larger 3-level one of 63.75 m x 46.25 m and a smaller, also 3-level structure, of 48,75m x 16,25m. The ground floor was designed to house a main lobby, reading rooms and lending libraries, conference room for 90 persons, lecture room for 30 persons, café and auxiliary rooms. The remaining two floors will host book collections, main and specialist reading rooms and offices for librarians and administrative workers.

Library’s acquisition and labeling sections will be located on the 3rd floor of the smaller structure. Unusual and protected collections will be gathered on the 4th and 5th floor.

The new building will have space for circa 1.8 million books and publications available in traditional and digital forms.

The contract is to be completed within 30 months and is worth net PLN 43.43 million.
