Skanska expands its market in Poland for development of commercial projects by including Katowice

Skanska has decided to expand the market for the development of commercial projects in Poland to also include Katowice. A land acquisition intended for an office project has been made just outside the city center of Katowice, along Chorzowska street. The sellers are a group of private persons together with a local developer in Katowice. The future project could be in the size of more than 30 000 sqm of leasable office area in several phases.

“Our specialty, which is the development of commercial projects in prime locations, has been successful in Warsaw for ten years. Since last year we have extended our market also by including Wroclaw. Due to the fact that we believe in the future opportunities in several of Poland’s regional centers, such as Katowice and Wroclaw, our analyses show that also Katowice is a market of long-term interest to us in terms of the development, construction, leasing and sale of modern office premises. Major international companies are now starting to establish their operations also in Katowice” – says Mats Johansson, Managing Director of Skanska Property Poland.

Katowice and its neighbouring cities have a population of more than 4 million people. The area of Silesia is under a huge transformation from being mainly an industrial area to also including service oriented businesses. The Silesia region in southern Poland with an excellent infrastructure makes a strategic location with a very good access to many main cities in Europe, and also to Polish cities like Kraków and Wrocław.
