Panel discussions, workshops, numerous foreign delegations and specific solutions for entrepreneurs. The European Congress of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises will start in Katowice in less than 60 days. This year’s edition will be held from 22nd to 25th of September.
With each passing year the organizers increase not only the number of topics and issues connected with small and medium-sized enterprises increases, but also the number of participants of one of the biggest SME dedicated events, the European Congress of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Katowice. Since it’s first edition the Congress develops and adapts its formula to current international SME problems. The fourth edition is another challenge where the goal is to establish a platform for dialogue and to work out viable solutions. The registration for the Congress has just been opened.
Small and medium-sized enterprises are the power of the Polish economy. They produce the vast majority of the GDP and constitute the foundation for the stable development of world’s economies. Despite their significance and the role they play in the global economy, they encounter many obstacles which hinder their systematic development. This became the main reason for organizing an event that would attempt to assist their activities and create a better environment for their continued development.
3 years of gathering experiences
The first edition during its two days has gathered 2.5 thousand of participants with 12 panel discussions. The inaugural session was opened by Donald Tusk, the Prime Minister of Poland. The next edition was expanded to include construction and, in a broad sense, the internationalization of enterprises as topics to be discussed. The panel discussions and workshops lasted for 4 days with the participation of almost 3000 people from 21 countries. The Congress was opened by the President of the Republic of Poland – Bronisław Komorowski.
“Since the first edition we strive for discussion on the current issues of entrepreneurs. The previous editions have gathered a numerous group of experts who have shared their knowledge and experience. We worked out solutions and formulae for small and medium-sized enterprises. There is, however, still much to be done” – emphasizes Tadeusz Donocik, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee.
The international aspect of the Congress
The watchword of this year’s edition is ‘10 years of entrepreneurship without borders’, serving as a symbolic summary of the economic aspect of EU membership. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the accession of Poland into the European Union and the Organisers would like to emphasize the Congress’ international nature. On the third day of the event, Polish entrepreneurs will have the chance to acquaint themselves with the opportunities created by entering foreign markets with the Experts providing information regarding selected countries. The representatives of diplomatic services, business environment institutions and entrepreneurs will also be present. During the Congress, the practical aspect of establishing international business relations in the SME sector will also be discussed – one of the panel discussions will be dedicated to the free trade agreement between the EU and the US. Invited to the debate are those responsible for negotiating the terms of the agreement.
Business for young entrepreneurs
Numerous initiatives aimed at young people are organized by the Youth Forum at the CCI in Katowice. The European Forum for Young Entrepreneurs that accompanies the Congress is a search for European models of entrepreneurship and a source of knowledge regarding the process of running one’s own business. During the European Forum for Young Entrepreneurs, which will be an integral part of the Congress in Katowice, we plan to submit to the government of the Republic of Poland recommendations concerning the running of businesses by young entrepreneurs from Poland – summarizes Przemysław Grzywa from the Youth Forum at the CCI in Katowice.
