The Convention Bureau Katowice issued a report concerning the market of events and meetings that were held in the City in 2011. The analysis was based on a survey interview conducted in the first two months of this year.
According to the report, there are 1 883 hotels in Poland, of which 172 are located in the Silesia voivodeship. The number stands for 9,13% of all hotels in the country (the fourth place after Małopolskie, Wielkopolskie and Dolnośląskie voivodeships). 16 of these facilities are located in Katowice (9,3% of all hotels in Silesia).
In 2011, there were 900 events and meetings that took place in Katowice. The largest group is composed of congresses and conferences (511) and corporate events (289), which stands for 57 and 32 percent of all meetings, respectively, that were held in the City last year. These two categories are followed by incentive events (59 – 6%) and trade fairs and exhibitions (41 – 5%).
The overall number of the 900 meetings’ participants totals 173 629. 60,3% of the attendees (104 766) participated in trade fairs and exhibitions. 95% of all the meetings and events were run from one to three days. The scope of meetings subject was concerning economic and political issues (38%) followed by humanist (24%), medical (19%), technological (13%) and IT (6%) topics.
The data was received from 19 Katowice’s meeting centers situated in hotels, universities, public utility and office buildings and other venues.
The research was conducted by Krzysztof Cieślikowski, an analyst of the business tourism market, in cooperation with the Convention Bureau Katowice on order of the City Hall of Katowice.
