At the beginning of December, Neinver and PKP S.A. have commenced a one of the biggest infrastructural and commercial projects currently underway in Central Europe. The construction of the Railway Station in Katowice, Galeria Katowicka, an office building and road infrastructure began with demolition works of the old station hall and an adjacent overpass.
Vehicles traffic is still possible along the main Railway building on Dworcowa St. in both directions. „The new traffic organization in the City Center was designed to minimize the inconveniences arising from the construction works.
Monday, 6th of December, 2010 will see the beginning of the main stage of Katowice Railway Station reconstruction. The first phase will involve taking to pieces an overpass located above the Square and the Station hall. The construction area will be fenced in a gradual manner.
Works schedule for the upcoming weeks:
4th of December: eliminating public transportation from Szewczyka Square, moving bus stops (KZK GOP – Municipal Transport Union of the Upper Silesian Industrial District).
The City Hall of Katowice and KZK GOP (the Municipal Transport Union of the Upper Silesian Industrial District) launched today a social campaign to inform about traffic changes in Katowice during the construction works at Szewczyka Sq.
About 260 000 leaflets, advertisements in TV, radio, Internet, local press and info boards on bus and tram stops are prepared to inform passengers about the reorganization of public transport in the City Center.
A date of construction works’ start of the Railway Station is coming. The construction site will cover the entire Szewczyka Square which is the public transport center for thousands of passengers traveling through Katowice every day. The Square will be closed for the duration of the construction works. Thereby, KZK GOP (the Municipal Transport Union of the Upper Silesian Industrial District) prepared various public transport solutions to minimize the inconveniences.
