Citizens of Katowice decided in a public survey about a future design of the City Center, the Roundabout – Market Square area. Among three concepts presented by the Polish-Spanish consortium of design companies, 47 percent of voters have chosen the second project. The two other proposed concepts got 23 and 28 percent of votes. An idea for a development of a new building (MOW) between the existing “Zenit” and “Dom Prasy” buildings was declared positively by the survey’s participants.
Together with a February public opinion poll which concerned citizens’ preferences for an appearance of the future Katowice’s downtown, more projects’ details were presented. According to the designers the most important foundation of the City Center redevelopment which combines all the three proposed concepts, is a wish to execute a significant transformation of the Center’s public space. It has to be the place, where citizens enjoy theirs time, both during large open-air performances and moments spend here by day, or during evening-meetings.
After a presentation of three concepts of the future City Center by the consortium of Polish and Spanish design studios, nowadays a next step is to survey citizens about theirs preferences. Townsmen can voice theirs opinions on three proposals presented by the consortium. The concerned area is a part of the City’s downtown along Korfantego Avenue between the Roundabout (Rondo) and the Market Square (Rynek). According to Krzysztof Rogala, the Katowice mayor’s plenipotentiary for the Rondo-Rynek project, the redevelopment will cost around PLN 262 million (EUR 63m).
