Cornerstone laying for new runway

On Monday, the Upper Silesian Aviation Group (“Górnośląskie Towarzystwo Lotnicze”, GTL) laid a cornerstone of a new runway to be built at the Katowice International Airport.

The new runway will be the most modern amongst all Polish airports. It will be 45 meters wide and 3 200 meters long – 400 meters longer than the existing one, which will be transformed into a taxiway. The new runway may be extended by another 400 meters in the future.

Tender for new runway at Katowice Airport

Next week, authorities of Katowice International Airport are going to issue a tender for conducting a contruction work on a new 3,2 kilometers long runway. The undertaking worth approximately PLN 200 million will be finished in the second half of 2014.

The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL), which manages the airport, hopes the works would start this year. The investment is very important according to the GTL representatives.
