Szewczyka Sq. deserted, preparatory works start

On Saturday, 4th of December, public transportation was eliminated from Szewczyka Sq. and the bus stops were moved to other locations in the City Center including Market, Wolności and Andrzeja Squares. Today, workers started fencing part of Szewczyka Sq. and are preparing to demolish the overpass. First construction machinery appeared at the site.

Closing of Railway Station

Neinver and PKP S.A. launch the final stage of preparatory works connected with the redevelopment of the Railway Station and Szewczyka Sq. Since next Monday, 25th of October, the Station’s building will be closed for passengers. There will be only a temporary passage-way in the main hall connecting Szewczyka Sq. with the platforms and temporary station.

The passage-way will operate until the final closing of Szewczyka Sq.

First step of redevelopment

According to Neinver Polska, preliminary works at Szewczyka Sq. will start on 15th of August and it will cause first traffic changes. That day part of the Square near Młyńska St. will be closed. The first step of the investment is connected with preparatory works which include a relocation of underground utilities.

From that day on, vehicular traffic from Młyńska St. to Słowackiego and Mikołowska Streets will be impossible.

Station prepares to development

A rebuild of Szewczyka Sq. and development of the new Railway Station is approaching. A final closing of the Square for passengers, citizens, traffic is planned for 15th of August. A temporary station will be opened at the same time. A social media campaign which will inform about changes in the area, closed roads, new routes and timetables for buses is planned to start in mid-July.

PKP PLK began refurbishment

According to, PKP PLK has started a refurbishment of a part of the Railway Station’s building which is under management of the company. PKP PLK will refurbish access tunnels, platforms and its roofs, as well as railway lines inside the limits of the platforms. At first, the company started with a renewal of the tunnel under the platform number 4 which will be a part of a temporary station and which will service passengers during the redevelopment.
