Since the construction works start, the development of Scientific Information Center and Academic Library (SICAL) is progressing steadily. Today, the structural members of a second crane had been brought to the construction site and an installation work started. A reinforced concrete is completed and a side walls’ reinforcement of the underground car park is under preparation.
In Monday, a press conference took place in the Rector’s Office of the Silesian University. The meeting concerned, among other things, the investment financing matters of the Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library and a partnership between the Silesian University and the University of Economics which are responsible for the realization of the project. Administrative authorities as Elżbieta Bieńkowska, Minister of Regional Development and Bogusław Śmigielski, Marshal of Silesian Voivodeship took part in the conference.
The University of Silesia library will procure a PLN 4 854 086,50 grant from the Regional Operational Programme for the Upper Silesian Voivodship. The grant will be spared for a library management system of the future seat of Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library (SICAL, Polish acronym: CINiBA). The system will help to adapt both libraries resources – University of Silesia and University of Economics in Katowice – to a shared use in the new building of SICAL. A total amount of the project is PLN 5 710 690.
The contract for a general contractor of University Library secured by Mostostal Warszawa had been signed on 7th of August. Ten days later, on 17th of August the development site was delivered to Mostostal. Reffering to company’s press office, a site inventory control was already taken and the building area is currently fencing round. At the same time, preparatory and geodesic works are progessing. A demoliton of old parts of “Torkat” ice rink is planned to start next week.
Two months ago preceded an opening of bids for a general constructor of the University Library. It is a collaborative project of the Silesian Univeristy and University of Economics in Katowice. Seven companies and syndicates tendered for the contract. After offers checking, the chosen one is the syndicate of Mostostal Warszawa (Poland) and Acciona Infraestructuras (Spain) with a tender price PLN 52 990 439,75.
