The City Hall of Katowice issued a tender for modernization of 3 Maja St. and Wolności Sq. Works will include a new surface and pavements of the area, greenery, lighting and street furnitures. Together with the modernization, a redevelopment of track-ways of the street and the square will be conducted by Tramwaje Śląskie S.A.
An estimated cost of the 3 Maja modernization exceeds PLN 18,6 million. Interested companies can make bids by 10th of May 2012. According to the initial schedule, the works would start late September this year and would be finished by the end of November 2013.
Tramwaje Śląskie, a company responsible for the tramway infrastructure in the Upper Silesian agglomeration, is preparing right now to issue the tender for the track-ways redevelopment. “We plan to invite bids in May, then the works would launch in the turn of August and September 2012” – said Andrzej Bywalec, Investment Director at Tramwaje Śląskie.
The redevelopment will take one year and is estimated to cost PLN 18,21 mln. An overall length of the single track-way on 3 Maja St. and Wolności Sq. totals 1 680 meters.
Last year, 3 Maja was classified by Cushman & Wakefield – international commercial real estate brokers and consultants – as the fifth most expensive street in Poland. An annual rent for one square meter reached EUR 696 in 2011.
A trace of 3 Maja Street was marked out in the middle of 19th century between the present Market Square and Wolności Square in the downtown of the City. From the very beginning, the street was occupied by expensive stores and a high society. 3 Maja is mostly built-up by three- or four-storey tenements. In the central part, the street borders upon Szewczyka Sq. where the new Railway Station and Galeria Katowicka are being under construction at present.
