The Concert Hall officially presented

An official presentation of a future look of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra took place in the Art Roundabout yesterday. The presentation was made by Konior Studio which won an architectural competiton for the best project for the seat of NPRSO building. A present design concept is an evolution of a previous project prepared for the last year contest.

The building will deliver, the biggest in Poland, a five-level and 1 735-seated concert hall for classical music lovers. The project is preparing in cooperation with Buro Happold, engineers and conslutants known for a realization of the Opera in Copenghagen. Except the concert hall with a net area of 2 000 sq. m, this cultural spot will offer a concert chamber (net 305 sq. m), music shop, restaurant, play hall and a jazz club. A terrace will be placed at the second storey of 20 metres high arcades. All the building design has to create connections with music – for example, a huge wall separating the concert hall and an atrium will be covered by a musical note of the Beethoven’s 9th Symphony “The Ode to Joy”, which is also the European Anthem. A total usable building area: 19 978 sq. m

The concert hall elevation refers to a building type of Nikiszowiec district, an old workers colony in Katowice, where a brick made development and front sashes are a matchmark.
Design works are advanced, so there is a chance to file a building permit application in the City Hall this year.
