MIPIM 2010: chance to promote

From 16th to 19th of March 2010, the MIPIM real estate trade fair will take place in Cannes, France. The City Hall of Katowice is going to attend this major international fair of property professional similar to previous years. The City will participate in MIPIM 2010 together with Silesian Voivodeship and other Silesian cities.

Poland, which was the only EU country to avoid recession in 2009, and its economy is positioned to continue growing, will be the “Guest of Honour” at MIPIM 2010.

OFF Festival strengthens Katowice as ECC candidate

The fifth OFF Festival edition, the most important alternative festival in Poland will be taking place in Katowice as of now. Erstwhile, the audience of the Festival has been gathering in Mysłowice, the place of birth of Festival’s Creative Director – Artur Rojek. But in 2010 the organizers had to find a new location. The City Hall of Katowice had promised to support OFF Festival and host it in the City until at least 2016.

International Conference on Energy Efficiency

For the fourth time, an international conference – “City 2010. Energy Efficiency in Cities” – will take place in Katowice. This year, the conference will be held on 22nd – 23rd of March in the angelo Hotel at 24 Sokolska St. Debates will focus on energy efficiency and energy security in cities as well as cities’ responsibilities within the European package of actions in the fields of energy and climate change. An aim of the conference is to reflect on approach towards these challenges by European cities

Accommodation sector improvement

In January, the 4-star angelo Hotel informed about its opening which will take place in the beginning of March. However, the future weeks are going to bring an opening of following 4-star hotel which is the Best Western Premier Hotel at 1A Bytkowska St. It will be the 16th and 17th hotel facility in Katowice. Moreover, Diament Sp. z o.o. hotel chain has promised new 87 rooms in its extended part of the Park Hotel Diament building.

Hydrogen from Katowice

The Central Mining Institute (Główny Instytut Górnictwa, GIG) is currently preparing to launch a pilot research of gasifying coal underground in one of its mines. The attempt is planned for March. As a result, the extracted gas will allow for energy or hydrogen production in the future. This is a part of the HUGE Programme (Hydrogen Oriented Underground Coal Gasification for Europe) started two years ago. The HUGE project aims to help experts design a model mine of the future.
