The Stanisław Wyspiański Theater of Silesia is preparing for opening a new facility “Scena w Malarni” (“Malarnia” Stage). After almost two years of restoration works, the building will be officially opened this month.
It was raised in the latter part of the 19th century by members of the Masonic lodge composing of famed figures of Katowice. The facility was a home of the so called initiation hall of the group.
On Saturday, 3rd of March, the first stage of the Katowice City Center redevelopment was started. The works being carried out by the consortium of NDI and Balzola, contracted by the City Hall, are worth PLN 28 million and will be finished by the middle of January 2013.
For a kick-off, tram traffic through the Market Sq. was suspended till 7th of March. A single slip of track between the Square and the “Rialto” cinema is being prepared at the moment.
Galeria Katowicka, a shopping and entertainment center which is being currently built at Szewczyka Sq., attracts more and more tenants. Cushman & Wakefield, an exclusive lease agent responsible for the retail spaces’ commercialization, has contracted more than 100 brands up to now.

Dream, It Works! – this is a slogan under which Katowice will inaugurate its efforts to become the European Youth Capital (EYC) in 2015. Workshops, lecture courses and meetings will be taking place from 21st to 30th of March this year to promote the City’s candidature and the title’s idea among citizens.
The official motto of the Katowice candidature is the City of Dreams. It refers to a dream about the City of Gardens motto had been created while Katowice was applying for the European Capital of Culture (ECC) in 2016
