The Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice inaugurated a new academic year. The inauguration took place in a new building located at 50 Raciborska St.
It took over two years to build and outfit the new educational facility. Students and teachers now can use 153 rooms including a multifunctional hall of 380 sq. meters. Also, IT, lecture, sculpture and drawing rooms, office spaces, workshops of painting, industrial form design and graphic design departments were located in the building. Apart from the area dedicated only for students purposes, a public library with media library, gallery, cafe and a cinema theater for 100 spectators are opened for all visitors.
The new complex covers the area of 12 500 sq. meters and is comprised of three wings linked together via connecting walkways and an inner courtyard. The building was designed by the architectural company An Archi Group from Gliwice. Dombud was a prime contractor of the investment.
The project has been awarded a European Union subsidy. A total cost of the undertaking amounted to PLN 42 million.
