Best Western International, world’s biggest hotel chain providing marketing, reservations and operational support to more than 4 000 hotels in over 100 countries, announced today to establish a new franchised unit in Katowice. The decision was officially revealed during the Property Forum by Gheorghe Marian Cristescu, Best Western’s regional sales director.
The new hotel will be independently-operated by a subsidiary of GC Investment which is also an owner of the building. The hotel already called Best Western Browar Mariacki (Best Western Mariacki Brewery) will be located in the former “Hotel Śląski” building (Silesian Hotel) at 15 Mariacka St. in the very heart of the City. It will be a 3-star facility offering 46 rooms and a restaurant for 200 guests. The accommodation area is designed over 1st to last 8th floor. The ground storey will house the restaurant and a brewery, where a local beer is going to be manufactured.
“We expect to start construction works at the beginning of the second quarter of 2013 as now we are applying to obtain all administrative procedures and financing. The project’s budget will be provided under the JESSICA framework which is an initiative of the European Commission supporting sustainable urban development through financial mechanisms” – said Rafał Kincer, GC Investment’s vice president of the board.
The modernist building will be restored within requirements of the city’s historic preservation officer. GC Investment expects to deliver the hotel in the second quarter of 2014. A total cost of the undertaking will reach approximately PLN 10 million. It will be the second franchise hotel of Best Western in Katowice – the chain has provided its brand to the 4-star Best Western Premier Katowice opened in 2010 at 1A Bytkowska St. Each of the over 4 000 hotels of BW is different and all were designed in accordance with local trends and style as the company allows to keep their independent identity.
