Business meetings market grew by 10% in 2015

A new edition of the business tourism market report was released by the City Hall’s Convention Bureau. The number of participants of business meeting increased last year, while the number of events was lower than in 2014.

All the meetings were attended by 582 495 people in 2015 – 10,3% more than in the previous year. The total number of business gatherings amounted to 6 601 last year in Katowice. To compare, in 2014 there were 7 402 meetings in the city. „The lower number of business events is due to the opening of the International Convention Center and concentration of the meetings – sometimes a few meetings started to be organized within a one big event” – said Krzysztof Cieślikowski, author of the report, analyst of the business tourism market and academic teacher.

1 147 out of the 6 601 meetings (17,4%) lasted two days or longer. The total number of days when the business meetings were organized was 8 177. The largest number of events took place in October.

339 conferences, business meetings and other events were organized in the International Convention Center – which had been opened in March last year – and were attended by 319 835 people. The ICC is currently the largest conference area in Poland covered with a roof, the report says.

In March last year, the Intel Extreme Masters tournament and Intel Expo fairs took place in the center gathering 104 thousand visitors, what made it the largest business event in Poland in 2015. 1 400 people was involved to organized IEM and the fairs.
