First part of DOKP tore down

Demolition works are being conducted on the lower part of the former „DOKP” building in the heart of Katowice. The works are carried on behalf of TDJ Estate, which plans to erect a new office and service complex in the place of the existing facilities.

The works are being executed by the Cluain company from Czeladź, Poland. The firm has just torn down the first part of the old office complex – a two-storey building situated from the side of Olimpijska St. – and now removes the rubble and other remains. The first stage of the demolition is expected to be done in the weeks to come. The works related to the demolition of the main 72-meter tall building are planned to be commenced in the turn of the first and the second quarter of 2015.

„The demolition works on the high-rise building will be conducted in a traditional way” – said Maciej Wójcik, CEO of TDJ Estate. „To prepare an architectural concept of the new complex, we appointed the Medusa Group studio from Bytom due to its long experience in realization of office projects. Moreover, the fact that the company is from Upper Silesia has a crucial meaning for us as an investor related to this region” – Maciej Wójcik added.

TDJ Estate purchased „DOKP” from PKP S.A. in November 2013 for PLN 29 million. The building is located at 1 Roździeńskiego Av. close to the „Spodek” sport and exhibition hall and the new venue of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra.

„DOKP” was officially delivered in 1974, however first office employees had started their work in the building in 1972. It was a seat of the Regional Directorate of State Railways for many years. The last large tenant – PKP Cargo – moved out from the building over four years ago. „DOKP” was designed by Jerzy Gottfried. Up to 1 200 people work in the office complex in its glory days. The building is located at 1 Roździeńskiego Av.
