At the beginning of June, glazing works on the front facade and the dome over the Galeria Katowicka’s main entrance were finished. Most of works were also concluded on the elevation, which is now 75% done.

The space of the glass facade totals 850 sq. meters and consists of 318 glass elements which are 8 mm thick. The dome is located nearly 24 meters over the ground level and its diameter amounts to 28 meters.
The elevation will be made of 2 400 aluminium panels covering 3 600 sq. meters.
“The aluminium panels are being manufactured especially for this building. To keep the panels weather-resistant, the anti-corrosion coating was applied. The elevation will be illuminated by RGB fluorescent lamps to be installed in the frame of the facade on 3 Maja St. and Szewczyka Sq. The technology will make it possible to get any color” – says Daniel Muc, Strabag’s press spokesman for the Galeria Katowicka project.
The building’s designers, including Jocelyn Filiard from Sud Architectes, already carried out several tests for a section of Galeria Katowicka’s elevation to check the lights and the amount of light energy. Sud Architectes are responsible for the design of the whole project at Szewczyka Sq.
Elevation and lighting system installation works are expected to be finished in August. Galeria Katowicka will be opened in September.
