First event will be commenced in the new International Convention Center on Thursday. An occupancy permit was given for the building on 5th of March.
Warbud, a prime contractor of the center, handed it over to the Municipal Center for Sport and Recreation („MOSiR”). The municipal company was appointed to manage the ICC until an independent property manager will be chosen by the City Hall of Katowice – an owner and investor of the building.
The final commissioning is scheduled for 23rd of March. However, it does not mean that all works have been conducted. An underground passageway linking the ICC and „Spodek” is still under construction. „We perform these works within a separate building permit. The passage should be done before the start of the Katowice Open tennis tournament at the beginning of April. Also, we will have to plant greenery and do some finishing touches and make-ups inside the building in accordance with the City Hall suggestions” – said Adam Wieczorek, project manager at Wabud.
Aside from this, Intel Extreme Masters and Intel ESL Expo Katowice will be held in „Spodek” and the ICC from 12th to 15th of March. E-sport professionals will gather in both buildings to compete for a total prize purse of over USD 600 000.
