The Katowice Special Economic Zone expects about twenty new investment projects to be launched this year within the zone. It will show a slight decrease in the number of established businesses and the amount of money invested.
The twenty projects will be worth between PLN 0,8 and 1,2 billion. From 800 to 1 200 new workplaces will be created. In comparison to 2012, the zone has issued 26 permits for new investments and its total value reached PLN 1,5 billion.
According to Polish Press Agency, the biggest projects that has been established last year in the KSEZ include Metsa Tissue Krapkowice (PLN 170 million) and Valeo Electric and Electronic Systems (PLN 110 million).
The Katowice Special Economic Zone is the leader among Polish special economic zones. It was established in 1996 with its main seat in Katowice. The companies have invested more than PLN 19 billion and have created over 49 500 new jobs in the zone. It has attracted 190 business entities so far.
Last year, fDi Magazine named the KSEZ the 11th best free zone of the future 2012/2013 in the globe. More than 600 free zones across 120 countries were invited by the magazine to complete a survey requesting both qualitative and quantitative data. A total of 56 zones submitted details regarding many aspects of their zones and this was judged and scored by an independent judging panel. The Katowice Special Economic Zone got the highest mark from amongst five Polish zones ranked in the report.
