The Medical University of Silesia (SUM) is erecting the modern Didactics and Medical Simulation Center (DMSC) in the Ligota district within the University’s campus. Construction works started this summer are to be finished in two years. The Center will be located on Medyków St.
Erbud S.A. – the prime contractor of the project – is currently progressing with preparatory works including a demolition of parts of the old hospital laundry. The building’s skeleton will be adapted into an ultra-modern educational facility.
The Center will be the only institution of its kind in Poland. According to SUM’s development strategy, solutions applied in the building will help to computerize teaching methods and provide the world’s quality of education.
The DMSC’s simulation rooms will provide possibilities of practical training, making and analyzing mistakes, increasing patient safety and team work. Advanced mannequins and a self-assessment room will allow students to train skills in emergency cases and life-endangering situations which they will face with during professional duties. A multimedia hall will use an information-communication technology (ICT) providing access to medical databases and e-learning.
The value of the investment is estimated at PLN 33,5 million. The project is co-financed by the European Union.
