Mostostal Warszawa contracted to finish Silesian Philharmonic extension

Representatives of the Silesian Philharmonic contracted today the building company of Mostostal Warszawa S.A. to continue and complete works on the Philharmonic’s modernization and extension. The firm will have 16 months to fulfill the agreement.

Mostostal is to enter the construction site on 1st of March. Previous works have been executing by the consortium of Mostostal Warszawa and Acciona Infraestructuras. However, the firms had retracted from the contract and the construction work is suspended since the beginning of January – technical condition of the building turned out to be far worse than previously assessed and resulted from former damage to the building caused by mining works.

Up till the end of 2011, a raw state of the extension of the complex has been finished. The existing, historic building’s foundation has been already reinforced with the jet grouting method and layers of plaster were removed partially.

In view of the damages in the building’s structure, it was necessary to prepare a new design documentation which included the additional work to be implemented. As the cost of the estimated works exceeded the basic contract value by 50%, and due to the fact that sole-source contracts are not supported within the framework of the EU programs (modernization of the Philharmonic is co-financed by EU funds), announcement of a new open tender for continuation and completion of the building was obligatory. The offer of Mostostal Warszawa was the only one in the tendering procedure.

Total costs of the works amount to gross PLN 35,17 million.
