Mostostal Warszawa will complete works on Silesian Philharmonic

On 30th of December 2011, an open tender was issued for continuation and completion of works on the Silesian Philharmonic’s modernization and extension. Bids opening took place on Wednesday. Only one company entered a bid.

“The only one offer was made by Mostostal Warszawa SA” – said Marek Skocza, press spokesman of the Silesian Philharmonic. As the bid fulfills tender requirements and the price bid does not exceed estimated costs of the works, Mostostal is the winning tenderer and will conclude the modernization and extension. The company will have 16 months to finish the undertaking after contract signing. A total cost of the works amounts to gross PLN 35,17 million.

Previous works were executing by the consortium of Mostostal Warszawa and Acciona Infraestructuras. However, the firms had retracted from the contract and the construction work is suspended since the beginning of January – technical condition of the building turned out to be far worse than previously assessed and resulted from former damage to the building caused by mining works.

Thereby, it was necessary to prepare a new design documentation which includes additional work to be implemented. As the cost of the estimated works exceeded the basic contract value by 50%, and due to the fact that sole-source contracts are not supported within the framework of the EU programs (modernization of the Philharmonic is co-financed by EU funds), announcement of a new open tender for continuation and completion of the building was obligatory.
