NDI and Balzola contracted for II stage of City Center redevelopment

The City Hall of Katowice signed a contract with NDI and Balzola. The selected Polish-Spanish consortium won the tender procedure for the second stage of the City Center redevelopment in the area of Roundabout – Market Sq.

There were four tenderers taking part in the contract award procedure. The price that was the only criterion amounts to gross PLN 85,74 million. The works will be completed in 18 months as of the date the contract is signed.

The investment project will involve the redevelopment of the road system, public squares, and technical infrastructure, as well as preparation of the design and redevelopment of the road linking Piotra Skargi and Mickiewicza streets to be located near the “Ślązak” building.

Within the contract, NDI and Balzola will redevelop, among others, Pocztowa and Młyńska streets, the section of Korfantego Av. between the “Ziętka” Roundabout and Moniuszki St. The companies will also build new Śródmiejska St. situated along the “Superjednostka” building and will prepare a mixed pedestrian and vehicle traffic road in the area. The redevelopment of the “Rawa” river’s bed between the “Superjednostka” and “Korfantego 1A” buildings is also included in the investment process.

Moreover, the consortium will conduct some demolition works above the ground and under the ground on buildings, elements of street architecture, the tram tracks, the existing pavements, and elements of the technical infrastructure. The works also embrace the development of public spaces – laying new pavements, planting, erection of tram sheds, elements of street infrastructure and fountains.

The consortium of NDI and Balzola is already responsible for the first stage of the City Center revamp – the redevelopment of tram-tracks’ infrastructure between the “Ziętka” Roundabout and the “Rialto” cinema. The consortium also modernizes a tram infrastructure on 3 Maja St.
