New investments at Katowice Airport

The Katowice International Airport in Pyrzowice got a new revamped maintenance hangar. The building was delivered on Tuesday after several months of redevelopment. Works have been conducted by Skanska SA. Costs of the investment exceeded PLN 6 million. The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL), which manages the Airport, is currently preparing following investments.

In Ferbuary this year, GTL signed an agreement with a consortium of Polimex-Mostostal SA (Warsaw) and Coifer Impex SRL (Bucharest). The companies are to raise a new maintenance hangar. Construction work launched already. The contractor has 60 weeks to complete the project worth PLN 26 million. The investment is co-financed by the European Union funds. The new hangar, with a cubature of 106 350 cu. meters and usable floor space area of 7 912 sq. meters, will be able to service two Airbus A320 or Boeing 737 aircrafts simultaneously.

Development of the technical infrastructure at the Airport is a part of a long-term investment strategy of GTL. Construction work of a new apron to accommodate 13 parking positions will start this year in May. The project estimated at PLN 80 million will be concluded in 2012. The apron will cover an area of approximately 100 000 sq. meters.

Next year, GTL is going to issue a tender for prime contractor of a new runway. All the investments are to encourage new carriers to set up their bases in Pyrzowice.

Total costs of the investments planned at the Airport by the end of 2015 are estimated at PLN 550 million.
