New seat planned for UDT

The Office of Technical Inspection (UDT) has chosen a winning project in the architectural competition seeking a concept design scheme of the office’s new Katowice seat. The building will be located on Żelazna St.

The Office of Technical Inspection is a supervisory organization for safety of technical devices. UDT activities involves the assessment of safety of technical installations including manufacturers quality systems, examination of conformity with legal regulations, certifications of installations, components and materials as well as tests and inspections during manufacture processes. There are 29 regional branches of UDT in Poland including the office in Katowice.

The winning project for the new seat was chosen within the open architectural competition. The first prize was awarded to „PPA Podczaszy Pracownia Architektury” from Kraków. The architectural studio designed the three-storey building covering the area of almost 2 100 sq. meters. It will be situated on an empty plot, opposite brick buildings of the former Baildon steelworks. UDT will move there from its present location on Opolska St. According to UDT, the new seat will be built due to unsatisfying working conditions in the present office.

The next step for the winning studio is to prepare a design and budget documentation for the construction of the new building. “We estimate that the construction work would be started in 2017” – said Natalia Rostkowska, press spokesman of the Office of Technical Inspection.
