In the last days of September, the City Hall of Katowice has denounced the agreement with Polimex-Mostostal, a prime contractor of the International Convention Center. Currently a new contractor has to be chosen to finish the building.
According to the Polish law, the contract is dissolved within 14 days since the day of the denouncement. Marek Nych, representing Grontmij Poland, a contract engineer of the project, says the withdrawal was effective. “However, to issue a new prime contractor competition, the construction site has to be left by Polimex-Mostostal at first. The bids will surely be invited this year, anyway” – Nych explained. The schedule says that Polimex-Mostostal will leave the site by mid-November.
The contract between the City Hall and the prime contractor was withdrew as a result of inadequate performance of the financial and practical schedule, and delay of the construction work that makes impossible to deliver the building according to the contracted completion date.
