New tram track work starts on Korfantego Av.

Tramwaje Śląskie, a management company of tram infrastructure in the Katowice agglomeration, is going to start the next stage of redevelopment works of tram trackways along Korfantego Av. This time, the section between the Roundabout and „Słoneczna” terminus will be modernized.

A prime contractor of the undertaking is the consortium of Skanska Poland and Skanska Czech Republic – the same which is now responsible for the redevelopment of the tram tracks section located along the Silesia Park (Chorzowska St.).

The works will be begun on Saturday, 29th of March, and will take approximately 8 months to be finished in November. The modernization will be conducted in two stages, about 1 700 meters of single track will be replaced within the project. Tramwaje Śląskie will pay Skanska net PLN 4 million.

Additionally, modernization works are also being underway on Kościuszki St. between the „Rialto” cinema and the Academy of Physical Education’s stadium where 2 360 meters of single track will be revamped by Balzola. The works cost net PLN 9,8 million and are scheduled for delivery in February 2015.

All the forementioned undertakings are being conducted within a European Union financial support of 59%. The total cost of the tram and trolleybus infrastructure’s modernization in the agglomeration is worth net PLN 541,8 million.
