PRK Kraków has finished works on the platform number 2 of the Katowice Railway Station and delivered it to passengers last Friday. At the same time, the platform 3 was closed and workers have moved there to start the redevelopment.
A new surface, roof and tracks, elements of small architecture, information system for passengers and fittings were built within the general modernization of the platform 2. “Moving stairways will be installed later on during the next stage of works” – says Jacek Karniewski, press spokesman of PKP PLK’s Katowice branch. Most of the works were conducted by Budus S.A. signed as a subcontractor by PRK Kraków.
In the last phase, the one solid roof over all four platforms of the Station including intertrack spaces will be erected. Also the passenger underpasses are to be refurbished.
PRK Kraków is a prime contractor of the modernization. The platforms and its roof are to be finished by 30th of November 2012. The redevelopment costs net PLN 49,57 million and is financed by PKP PLK S.A. – a state-owned company managing railway infrastructure.
