Sub Center South approved

The City Council of Katowice adopted a spatial development plan for the so called Sub Center South („Subcentrum Południe”) last Friday. A new shopping center of Echo Investment will be the key facility of this area.

The sub-center is consisted of four zones. The main and central part is located in the junction of Kolejowa and Kościuszki streets, where a 5,4 ha plot of Echo Investment is placed. The developer wants to build there a 42 000 sq. meters shopping center. Some draft information about the project was released by the company in February this year.

Echo purchased the plot in January 2010. Most of the property and the surroundings are occupied by warehouses, industrial facilities and waste land. In 2010, the City Hall of Katowice started to prepare a new study of land use conditions and directions concerning this area. The document was essential to reshape this part of the city. The study was adopted by resolution in April 2012. After several changes and consultations with inhabitants and involved parties, the spatial development plan for the Sub Center South – corresponding to the study assumptions – was accepted last Friday by the City Council. It means that Echo can build the fore-mentioned shopping center.

The schedule of the project has not yet been released by the developer. The architectural design is being prepared by „Mofo Architekci” from Kraków.
