Griffin Group, a developer and investor, has acquired a development project of the Supersam shopping mall to be located in the center of Katowice. The company already chose a prime contractor of the construction work.

An estimated total cost of the undertaking will amount to approximately EUR 50 million. The fund purchased the project from Centrum Development & Investments, a former owner of the scheme. CDI will be still involved in the project as a management body of the investment process. Griffin announces to launch works within two months. In the late April, the company contracted Hochtief to erect the new mall.
“New Supersam will be built in the place that has been strongly associated with retail for a very long time and we are convinced the new mall will attract customers from the entire Upper Silesia region. Our goal is to create a modern facility enabling people to spend a spare time with pleasure and to take advantages of its retail, entertainment and gastronomic offer. We also want the building’s architecture to have a positive influence on the local urban spaces” – Przemysław Krych, Griffin Group’s CEO, said in a press statement.
Opening of Supersam is expected in 2015. About 21 000 sq. meters of new retail spaces will be delivered in the building. According to the investor, approximately 60 percent of the leasable area is already rented. Supersam will be located at 6 Piotra Skargi St. Konior Studio is responsible for the architectural design of the project.
Griffin Group was founded in 2007 as a joint-venture between Cornerstone Partners and Chelsfield Partners. The company owns the “Renoma” shopping center in Wrocław, “Hala Koszyki” and office buildings in Warsaw as well as a land bank for residential development. In the middle of March this year, Oaktree Capital Management has become the new 50% shareholder and partner of the Griffin Group. Oaktree is primarily known in Poland as the owner of Stock Poland (former Polmos Lublin), the market leader in the spirits industry and “Zielona Budka”, one of the strongest brands in the ice cream market.
