Cargo policy of Katowice Airport

A volume of cargo traffic at the Katowice International Airport (KTW) was more than doubled in the first half of 2010 than in the corresponding time period last year. As the airport plans to become a cargo center of the region including southern Poland at least, following investments are under preparation.

By the end of 2013, a new cargo terminal covering area of 7 000 sq. meters will be developed.

Preparation for extension

In 2010, an extension of the Katowice Airport will start within the framework of a long-standing development programme estimated for PLN 435 million. Last month, the Upper Silesian Avation Group which manages the Airport, increased in capital by PLN 83 m. It was possible thanks to a new stock purchase by present share-holders – Węglokoks, the Silesian Voivodeship government, the “Polish Airport” State Enterprise and the City of Katowice.

New cargo base at Pyrzowice Airport

The Upper Silesian Aviation Group, which manages Katowice Airport is to announce a tender for new cargo base design preparation. New facility will be located in the Eastern part of the airport which has rarely been used since now. The USAG completed preparation phase and already secured financing for the project. Within the first construction phase 30 000 sq. m of new plane parking will be developed as well as a 7 000 sq. m cargo terminal.
