The City Hall of Katowice issued a call for tenders for construction works of International Convention Center (ICC). Interested companies can file tender documents by 29th of March, 2011.
The Center will be developed near “Spodek” and is going to be one of the buildings creating the future district of culture. The ICC will cover a total area of 34 186 sq. meters. The most characteristic feature of the building is a green valley overpassing the roof.
The City of Katowice waits for its genuine business meetings midpoint, the International Convention Center (ICC). While the Silesian Museum – which will be a part of the new cultural district together with the ICC – has already run procedures to choose a prime contractor, the International Convention Center is prior to this stage. However, it is in a fair way to follow the example.

The Marshal Office of Śląskie Voivodeship signed a conditional agreement to qualify the project of International Convention Center (ICC) for a European Union grant within the framework of the Regional Operational Programme for Śląskie Voivodeship for the years 2007 – 2013. The investment will be realized by the City Hall of Katowice.
At present, an application of the project has to be evaluated by the European Commission (EC) which will decide about an EU grant’s admission.
The International Convention Center (ICC) will be a one of three new buildings planned in the area of the future cultural district near “Spodek”. A need of a full-sized convention center in a one location in the City was strongly visible during the last European Economic Congress (EEC) where participants had to move between ten different localizations. It was commented that all important congress events and congress cities need a professional base including different size spaces situated in a one building.
During the last conference related to the City Center redevelopment, the Mayor of Katowice, Piotr Uszok claimed that a building permit for the International Convention Center is going to be given in 2009. After that, the City Hall will call for a bid for a prime contractor. The construction works should be finished in 2012. According to the project manager, Janusz Nowak, the ICC will be on time as the total amount of EUR 46 mln for the development is already guaranteed (half of the amount is granted by EU).
