Katowice under construction

It can surely be said, without exaggeration, that Katowice sees the largest development process over the last decades. Construction sites, machinery and building crews can be seen from every quarter.

The largest engagement in the building works takes place in the cultural district being currently erected in the area of the former „Katowice” coal mine. “Katowice is the biggest cultural construction site in Poland with the greatest meaning.

Works commenced on the Market Sq.

On Saturday, 3rd of March, the first stage of the Katowice City Center redevelopment was started. The works being carried out by the consortium of NDI and Balzola, contracted by the City Hall, are worth PLN 28 million and will be finished by the middle of January 2013.

For a kick-off, tram traffic through the Market Sq. was suspended till 7th of March. A single slip of track between the Square and the “Rialto” cinema is being prepared at the moment.

NDI and Balzola kick-off first stage of City Center redevelopment

On Saturday, 3rd of March 2012, the consortium of Polish NDI SA and Balzola S.A. from Spain will commence works on the first stage of the City Center redevelopment. The long-awaited undertaking will cause several changes in the downtown’s traffic.

To highlight the most important, bus stops will be moved from the Market Sq. to Sokolska and Mickiewicza Streets. On 7th of March, Pocztowa and Św. Jana Streets will be closed for car traffic. Several bus and tram lines will change its routes.
