Tender decided for first stage of City Center redevelopment

The City Hall of Katowice decided today a tender procedure concerning a first stage of the City Center redevelopment in the area located between the Roundabout and the Market Square. A Polish-Spanish consortium of NDI SA and Construcciones y Promociones Balzola S.A. was chosen to conduct the works.

The consortium will revamp the area for PLN 28 069 109. It was the lowest price proposed from amongst all 12 bidders tendering for the contract. Now, according to the public procurement law, the tendering companies have 10 days to lodge an appeal against the decision of the City Hall in the National Appeal Chamber. “If none of the companies file the complaint, the City Hall will sign the contract with the prime contractor in January. Then, the construction work will start in February 2012. Otherwise, the potential appeal would delay the contract signing for 4-8 weeks” – said Daniel Muc, press spokesman of the Roundabout – Market Square redevelopment.

The first stage of works includes a reconstruction of the double-track tram line and its infrastructure situated between the Roundabout and Moniuszki St., a rebuilding of the tram line in the area of the Market Square, Św. Jana and Kochanowskiego streets (the line located under the railway overbridge) as well as a removal of the tram line from Pocztowa and Dworcowa streets. Also, the works will involve a construction of a tram bridge over the “Rawa” river, new tram platforms, tram wires, road surfaces (mostly on Św. Jana St.), traffic lights, redevelopment of a sewerage system and power network.

The consortium will have 12 months to conduct the works since the contract is signed.
