The City Hall of Katowice prepares to build three swimming pools. A competitive tender for architectural designers has just been announced.
The swimming pools will be erected in three districts of Katowice: Szopienice (Hallera/Konna St.), Brynów (Kościuszki/Zgrzebnioka St.) and Zadole (Wczasowa St.). The City Hall wants to purchase an existing project of a swimming pool, which will be adapted for the needs of the three planned facilities.
The main part of the complex will be an indoor 25 x 12,5 meters sport swimming pool (6 lanes). Also, a 3-lane 12,5-meter long swimming pool for swimming lessons and a recreational swimming pool will be located in the building. A paddling pool, audience stand for 100 spectators, water slide, gym, fitness room, two spa baths, other sport subsidiaries and back rooms will be designed as well.
Offers have to be submitted by 12th of January 2016. According to an initial schedule, the swimming pools are expected to be delivered in September 2018. The sport facilities will be built instead of a water park, which has been planned over the recent years on a plot located on Kościuszki and Zgrzebnioka streets. The City Hall decided to abandon the water park project and to erect three swimming pools due to economic reasons.
