On Saturday, 3rd of March, the first stage of the Katowice City Center redevelopment was started. The works being carried out by the consortium of NDI and Balzola, contracted by the City Hall, are worth PLN 28 million and will be finished by the middle of January 2013.
For a kick-off, tram traffic through the Market Sq. was suspended till 7th of March. A single slip of track between the Square and the “Rialto” cinema is being prepared at the moment. Trams will back to service the lines across the Market Sq. from Wednesday.
The first stage of works is divided into four phases. The first one consists of preparing a new tram line’s stretch between the Market Sq. and “Rialto” and laying tracks in a new bed from the “Wyspański” theater to Moniuszki St.
The companies of NDI and Balzola create a so called integrated consortium. It means the both firms are responsible for realization of the project equally. NDI will contribute its knowledge and experience in the area of road building and utilities infrastructure, Balzola is to be involved in trackworks.
